Volunteer
Volunteers play a meaningful role in the guest experience at Sorrentino’s Compassion House, helping create a warm, welcoming space for guests. By sharing your time, you help shape the everyday experience of each guest.

The difference volunteers make
Volunteers play a meaningful role in everyday life at Sorrentino’s Compassion House. From leading guest activities and sharing their talents to decorating the house for the holidays or helping with seasonal projects, each contribution helps shape the experience of our guests.
We welcome individuals, corporate teams, and community groups to get involved in ways that feel meaningful to them, whether that’s a one-time visit or an ongoing commitment.

What volunteering can look like
Cook a meal for guests
Bring people together through food by leading a hands-on cooking workshop or preparing a meal for guests to enjoy, like a BBQ or shared dinner.
Lead a craft workshop
Lead a creative workshop and share your skills with guests. It can be anything. We recommend projects that can be completed within two hours.
Host a games session
Host a games session and bring guests together for some fun. From cards and board games to trivia or a mini tournament, there are plenty of ways to get involved.
Share your musical talent
Add to the atmosphere of the House with your musical talent. Guests have enjoyed everything from live piano music to group performances, including holiday caroling.
Decorate for the holidays
Help decorate the House for the holidays, or help decorate our upside-down tree, a year-round tradition that adds a unique touch to the House.
Lend a hand with handyman projects
Whether you’re handy with tools or just willing to lend a hand, your support helps keep the space running smoothly for our guests.
Support light yard maintenance
Help keep our outdoor spaces welcoming and well cared for. From simple gardening tasks to seasonal upkeep, there are plenty of ways to lend a hand.
Drive our shuttle van
Help guests get to and from medical appointments and other outings. This role requires a valid Class 5 licence and a more regular commitment.
Lead low-impact exercise classes
Classes like yoga, pilates, meditation, or stretching should be designed to be gentle and accessible, and need to be led by volunteers with appropriate credentials.
Offer self-care experiences
Guests always appreciate self-care services such as manicures, pedicures, or massages. Volunteers must have appropriate credentials and their own equipment.
Support special events
Take part in in-House events or external events that support Compassion House, like Tinseltown in Grande Prairie. In-house events are typically held in Edmonton, while external events offer opportunities to get involved from your own community.
Lead an education session
Knowledge is power. Share your expertise and give guests the opportunity to learn something new. In the past, we’ve hosted sessions like fraud and scam prevention.
More ways you can make a difference
Support in everyday ways
Simple everyday actions, like shopping, recycling, or giving items you no longer need, can add up in meaningful ways. It’s an easy way to make a difference as part of your regular routine.

Host a fundraiser
Hosting a fundraiser offers our community the opportunity to raise money in support of Sorrentino’s Compassion House. Big or small, every dollar raised helps women facing cancer who stay with us.
Together, we can make a difference for women facing cancer.
Your generosity supports women who must travel to Edmonton for cancer treatment and provides comfort, connection, and care when they need it most.
