Gift of securities
A gift of publicly traded securities is a meaningful way to support Sorrentino’s Compassion House, while also receiving valuable tax benefits. Securities can include investments such as stocks, mutual funds, or bonds that have increased in value over time.

Why donate securities?
Publicly traded securities can include investments such as stocks, mutual funds, or bonds that have increased in value over time. When these securities are converted to cash, they are typically subject to capital gains tax.
When these investments are donated directly to Compassion House Foundation, rather than sold first, the capital gains tax that would normally apply is eliminated.
This means you may be able to make a greater charitable impact than if you sold the investments and donated the cash proceeds instead. You will also receive a charitable tax receipt for the full fair market value of your donated securities.
Please reach out to donations@compassionhouse.org with any questions.

How donating securities works
There are a few ways to go about donating your securities. We use CanadaHelps to process the donations to make the process accessible and efficient. If you work with a broker, you can reach out to them directly and they can guide you through the process.
Initiating the process
Provide details about your securities or mutual funds donation through the form below. Once complete, download the Letter of Direction form. You will also receive an email confirming your pledge. CanadaHelps will receive and process your pledge.
Transferring your shares
Send the completed Letter of Direction to your broker authorizing the transfer of your shares to CanadaHelps. It typically takes 1 to 2 working days for the shares to appear in the CanadaHelps account.
Distributing the proceeds
Once CanadaHelps receives the proceeds, they will send you a detailed confirmation email with your charitable tax receipt and disburse the proceeds from the sale to Compassion House Foundation.
